  1.           Almanac for Windows, version 3.0

  4. Impact Software is pleased to announce the release of 
  5. version 3.0 of Almanac for Windows.  The first major 
  6. upgrade since version 1.0, it bears the 3.0 moniker to 
  7. indicate compatibility with Windows version 3.0 and 
  8. higher.  What's more, Almanac 3.0 has been created using 
  9. the latest Windows 3.1 development tools .  If you have 
  10. upgraded to Windows 3.1, you will be able to take full 
  11. advantage of the latest Win 3.1 features such as TrueType 
  12. fonts and digitized, CD quality, alarm sounds. 
  13.  
  14. Many new features have been added, a large number of 
  15. which came directly from users' suggestions.  A 
  16. Multiple Document Interface provides moveable windows 
  17. containing simultaneous views of your calendar, notebook, 
  18. scheduler, and to-do list.  Intelligent links have been 
  19. created between all windows.  Moving to any date in the 
  20. calendar will immediately reset the Notes and Scheduler 
  21. windows to the selected date and recall any existing 
  22. information.  Selecting an appointment or a to-do list 
  23. entry will reset the Notes window in a similar fashion.  
  24. All of the windows can be selectively displayed, moved, 
  25. and sized to customize a desktop that s just right for 
  26. you.  (We ve even included a reset feature to "tidy" 
  27. your desk in an instant!).

  29. Almanac 3.0 includes numerous improvements.  Here are 
  30. some of the new features and enhancements you will find: 
  31.  
  32.  - A To-Do list has been the most requested 
  33.    enhancement for Almanac.  Almanac's implementation 
  34.    lets you define to-do events complete with 
  35.    activation dates, required-by dates (optionally by 
  36.    time), and priorities.  Items are tracked on the 
  37.    list and in the calendar day view until they are 
  38.    marked as complete and "archived" to an ASCII 
  39.    text file.

  41.  - Expanded support for recurring events, which can 
  42.    now be defined in the Scheduler as well as in 
  43.    calendar overlays.  Scheduled appointments can 
  44.    optionally be displayed on the calendar month 
  45.    view.

  47.  - Streamlined entry of new events.  Just click on 
  48.    the date that the event occurs on and Almanac 
  49.    guides you through the entry, providing a list of 
  50.    recurring event types calculated specifically for 
  51.    the date you have selected.  (Examples: "Every 
  52.    May 14", "Every Tuesday", "Every 3rd Tuesday in 
  53.    May".)

  55.  - Full-color support has been added to calendar 
  56.    printouts.  Also, the new Accents dialog allows 
  57.    you to select color accents for each event from a 
  58.    choice of 48 pre-defined colors.  If you prefer, 
  59.    you can mix your own colors using the custom color 
  60.    palette.

  62.  - Hard-coded holidays have been eliminated.  All 
  63.    calculations are now available through overlays.  
  64.    Christian holidays can be calculated based on 
  65.    Easter, and Jewish holidays (including birthdays 
  66.    and yahrzeits) can be entered based on the Jewish 
  67.    calendar.

  69.  - Almanac will create a calendar bitmap and use it 
  70.    as your desktop wallpaper on command.  Choose from 
  71.    any calendar view - month, day, or year.  You can 
  72.    optionally tell Almanac to set your wallpaper 
  73.    automatically at startup.

  75.  - Almanac's alarms have been enhanced to make sure 
  76.    you "get the message" without interfering with 
  77.    other applications that are active.  Windows 3.1 
  78.    users can customize their choice of audio alarms 
  79.    by selecting digitized *.WAV sound files.
  80.  
  81.  - On-line Help has been added to assist users with 
  82.    all of Almanac's features.  "Hyper-text " links 
  83.    on embedded keywords allow you to easily jump to 
  84.    locate the information you are looking for.

  86.  - New iconic options allow Almanac to display the 
  87.    icon and description that you have defined in 
  88.    Program Manager when it is minimized on the 
  89.    desktop.  Or, you can minimize to a desk clock 
  90.    that can display the time, date, and/or day of 
  91.    week.

  94. Almanac 3.0 requires a DOS computer running Microsoft 
  95. Windows version 3.0 or higher in protected or enhanced 
  96. mode.
